Thinking of ditching your job? Or did you already make a swift exit?

Gallup Says:

  • 42% of employee turnover is preventable.

  • 51% of US employees are searching for new jobs (May 2024).

  • Commitment to organizations is at a nine-year low.

  • 42% left their jobs last year, often without a word (36% told no one, 44% didn’t talk to managers).

As the CEO of your business-of-one, handle the “thinking of ditching your job” scenario with calm and practical strategies to control your professional life. Are you considering leaving?

1. Visualize What Needs to Change:

  • More pay and benefits (30% of Gallup respondents said this)

  • Better daily management (21%)

  • Fixing organizational issues (13%)

  • Career advancement opportunities (11%)

  • Improved staffing or workload (9%)

  • Something else?

2. Plan Your Next Move:

  • Develop talking points on ways you add value to the organization. What is important to them, and how does your work contribute? If possible, use data.

  • Talk with your supervisor, manager, and Human Resources in a positive, “getting to yes” way.

  • Use Gallup’s cost replacement facts to negotiate:

    • Leaders/managers: 200% of salary

    • Technical roles: 80% of salary

    • Frontline employees: 40% of salary

  • Stay employed while job hunting to be a more attractive candidate
