Dr. Sharon Rudy

Here’s the official stuff:

I’ve served as a program director for multiple, multi-year initiatives funded by USAID and the UN system, focusing on behavior change communication, performance improvement, training, and building the next generation of global health professionals. I’ve served as faculty at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health via the Center for Communication Programs where I spent almost a decade working in Anglophone Africa designing, implementing, and evaluating national behavior change communication programs and client-provider interaction interventions.

About Me

I got my first job at age 17, working through 3 graduate degrees. I was underpaid and overworked until I learned how to articulate my value to an organization and how to negotiate for the kind of professional life I wanted! Over the years, I ended up bidding, winning, and running successful global health projects worth over $750,000,000. When I retired, I was one of the highest-paid Project Directors in the USAID system.

I’ve also worked in the Middle East, Africa (where I lived), and Asia (where I lived) doing research plus implementing performance improvement and training programs through the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  I am board-certified as a coach and counselor and have worked with hundreds of young, mid, and senior professionals, including presidential appointees. I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling and Organizational Consulting. I’m a published researcher, author, and contributor to several books on global health employment trends and competencies needed for the next generation of global health professionals.

Sharon combines technical knowledge, leadership smarts, start-up know-how, and political finesse. She is a keen observer of human behavior with a knack for inspiring collaborative action in a dynamic environment. She brings heart to work and her results are better for it. If you get a chance to be coached by her, take it!
